Excel Adult High School is an accredited high school that offers a fully online high school diploma program, available through your public local library. This program offers free enrollment to a limited number of qualified adult students.
The program is free to eligible adults who qualify for a scholarship award from the local library. Learn how to get started.
Adults residing within the local library service area who have successfully completed 8th grade and wish to earn their high school diploma. Minors under age 18 should pursue their high school education through existing high school programs.
Age requirements may vary among libraries, so be sure to contact your local library for eligibility requirements.
No, this is not a GED® program. Graduates earn a state-recognized, accredited high school diploma. If you’ve passed parts of the GED®, HiSET®, or TASC exams, you may transfer those credits toward your diploma.
Yes, up to 16 credits from other accredited high schools, homeschool programs, colleges, or high school equivalency exams can be transferred.
A minimum of six courses (6.0 credits) must be completed with Excel Adult High School to meet graduation requirements and earn the high school diploma.
To receive transfer credit, Excel Adult High School requires an official transcript which should be submitted for evaluation after completing the prerequisite course.

While all these options are valuable, some employers, colleges, and military programs may prefer a high school diploma. Excel Adult High School also offers career and college-ready courses to enhance your academic and job prospects.
Absolutely! Excel Adult High School graduates will earn a state-recognized, accredited high school diploma that is accepted by employers, colleges, and the military. Graduates from Excel Adult High School are well prepared for the next stage in life.
A successful online learner must be a motivated self-starter and committed to the success of their education. While Excel Adult High School offers a world-class education, it is ultimately up to the student to succeed. That can only be achieved by putting forth a lot of effort. Like anything, the more you put into your education the greater the benefit.
Support is available:
- During Business Hours: Contact a success coach via phone, chat, or support ticket.
- After Hours: Submit a support ticket through the learning management system.
- Tutoring: Unlimited 1-on-1 tutoring is available through BRYTE, an AI-powered tutor designed to support your learning needs. Academic coaches are available for additional support.
All courses are 100% online and accessible 24/7. A computer or laptop is required for assignments and exams. While smartphones can be used for some tasks, they cannot be used for final exams.
Yes, ELL tools are integrated into courses, including translation tools and audio readers for enhanced comprehension. Please note there are written essay assignments in the English courses, so adequate English proficiency skills are necessary.
Students will be given up to 24 months to complete the program. You can graduate sooner depending on the number of credits transferred and the amount of time you dedicate to your coursework. Many students graduate on average in 8 months.
Excel High School, part of Excel Education Systems was founded in 2005 and is the first fully online, accredited school district in Minnesota. Excel High School has a long history of providing adult high school programs for learners in need of an accredited high school diploma. Excel’s main campus is in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
Excel High School is accredited by Cognia, the parent organization of the regional accrediting agencies, the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), and the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC).
Excel High School is also accredited by the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools. The Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association accredit early childhood through post-secondary, non-degree granting public, private, faith-based educational institutions, including special purpose schools, and learning services providers.
Excel High School is committed to the success of its graduates as they advance in the workplace or post-secondary education and training. As students, you have access to tools and information such as MyPlan and Success Coach’s Corner to help plan and prepare for your next step.
Additionally, Excel provides a post-secondary connection for graduates. Excel High School and Washington Technical Institute (WTI) are sister schools, both owned and operated by Excel’s parent company, Excel Education Systems, Inc. WTI offers various college-level undergraduate certificate programs in business, legal studies, medical, and IT.
